What is the US Citizenship Test?
To earn the right to become a citizen, you must first pass a US Citizenship Test which measures your understanding of English by writing, reading, and speaking the language. You also must know the basics of US history and how the government operates.
The process begins by completing your initial application for naturalization. Next, you will be required to have your fingerprints taken at a US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) location. Finally, you will be issued an appointment for a naturalization interview. During this interview, you will be asked questions relating to your background and application, followed by the Citizenship Test.
A USCIS officer will administer the test to you, beginning with questions relating to your ability to read, write and understand English. You will then be asked ten questions about the US government body and US history. If you fail to answer the questions about your naturalization in English or do not have a passing test score, you may retake that portion of the test at least two months after the date of your initial interview.
Studying for the US Citizenship Test can be stressful for people who feel intimidated by exams and answering questions which require careful answers. However, there are a variety of resources to help you prepare for the US Citizenship Test. Our Dallas immigration law attorneys will acquaint you with the best methods for understanding the material and passing the test with flying colors.
